It’s an Ajay Devgn-film, so expectations would be fair enough good-to-huge among his fans and a number of moviegoers. Along with there’s Rajkumar Gupta who is helming this film and has given some hard-hitting and acclaimed films like Aamir and No One Killed Jessica. In addition, the trailer as well excited the audience to watch it at least once this real-story based flick. So let us see how well the movie lives up to its expectations!
The story revolves around an honest income-tax officer, Amay Patnaik (Ajay Devgn), who has only one job to do – raiding all the affluent businessmen and politicians that skips to pay their taxes and defrauds the nation. Well, this time he faces a typical rowdy politician, Rameshwar Singh AKA Tauji (Saurabh Shukla). Together, they begin a cat and mouse chase kind of game which results in amazing twists and turns as the film progresses. While Amay’s aim is to recover over Rs. 400 crore of black money from Tauji’s mansion, the latter one mounts pressure on the officer to withdraw the raid. Will an honest IT Officer finally succeeds in recovering the black-money from the corrupt politician? The answer to this forms the crux of the story.
Screenplay & Direction:
Writer Ritesh Shah has brilliantly penned down the film with all the necessary twists and turns for the audience right from the beginning. And so does the director Rajkumar Gupta who has helmed effortlessly and sketched out these twists-and-turns in an effective manner, so as to arrest the attention of the viewers throughout and to the fullest. In addition, this writer-director duo has made sure to give a perfect hook before the interval, along with a nail-biting climax, which eventually keeps us on the edge of our seats for most of the time.
Well, the only minus point which I faced here was the unwanted romantic angle between Ajay Devgn and Ileana D’Cruz, which created a deviation from the main plot to some extent. However that can be ignored, as Gupta has ensured that the audience’s attention has not much been deviated because of this hiccup and stick to the prime and bold topic throughout, which is “IT Officer raiding Corrupt Politician”.
The film rides on the shoulders of Ajay Devgn and Saurabh Shukla, where both of them performs brilliantly in an equal manner and shines in their respective characters. While the superstar Devgn enacts powerfully as an honest income tax officer, veteran Shukla, on the other hand, gives a tough fight to the superstar by playing a corrupt and rowdy politician. The duo impresses much whenever they appear on the screen.
Though Ileana D’Cruz gets less screen-time, she supports well by playing the wife of an honest officer. Pushpa Joshi gives a needed break from the continuous intensity with her witty sense-of-humor by playing Saurabh Shukla’s mother in the film. Other characters as well support well with their fine performances.
Music & Other Technicalities:
Songs seem like pretty much unnecessary when watching it in the film, whereas the background score works well throughout the narration. All the dialogues are brilliantly penned down in the film, and so it is sure to be greeted with whistles and claps. The cinematography is good, action sequences are pretty neat, and editing work has been carried out decently by keeping the thrill element quite crisp.
So is it a Paisa-Vasool film?
Totally! It’s a full Paisa-Vasool film! On the whole, ‘Raid’ is a must-watch movie for its twisty tale and remarkable performances by the two maestros. It’s worth raiding this hard-hitting thriller movie! So what are you waiting for? Go, and Raid it Now!
